In the ever-evolving landscape of international trade, the symbiotic relationship between growth and logistics infrastructure is undeniable. As demand for rapid delivery continues to rise and product life cycles shorten, the significance of air cargo transportation has surged. Globally, 35% of trade by value, approximately USD 6.4 trillion, takes to the skies. In this dynamic business environment, where speed to market is a competitive necessity, the movement of inventory has transcended compartmentalized processes.

AAI’s Pioneering Role in Indian Logistics

In rapidly growing economies like India, a robust logistics infrastructure is an economic catalyst, directly contributing to global competitiveness. The Indian market has sustained its growth momentum in both passenger and cargo traffic, with recent years witnessing remarkable achievements. With the ‘Make in India’ initiative driving advancements in the manufacturing sector, the development of infrastructure and logistics plays a pivotal role.

Since its inception, the Airports Authority of India (AAI) has been at the forefront of developing international cargo operations across various airports. AAI possesses the capability to handle express and general cargo, including temperature-sensitive, perishable, pharmaceutical, and dangerous goods. In line with the Ministry of Civil Aviation’s vision, AAI aims to develop domestic air cargo by establishing common user domestic cargo terminals.

Birth of AAICLAS: A Vision for the Future

Recognizing the increasing importance of air cargo in India’s economy, AAI proposed the demerger and corporatization of the cargo department. This move aimed to create a functionally and administratively independent organization, professionally driven and responsive. With a vision to become India’s premier integrated logistics network, AAI Cargo Logistics and Allied Services Company Limited (AAICLAS) was incorporated on August 11, 2016.

AAICLAS envisions becoming the largest networked and fastest logistics solution provider in India, connecting air, surface, and water transport seamlessly. The company will undertake various roles, including Cargo Terminal Operator, Free Trade Zone, Air Freight Station, and Inland Container Depot for cargo and passengers.
